Five Essentials for a Coastal Mid Winter Break

Five Essentials for a Coastal Mid Winter Break
In Sydney, where I call home, we are at week two of the mid-year school holidays. I often think of the school holidays as a mountain…I’m now standing at the apex and preparing the decent back to the school drop offs !!!

Luckily for me we’ve booked a long weekend this Friday down the coast to celebrate my birthday, to one of my fam’s fav sleepy coastal towns for some relaxation! Bring on the local RSL raffle night, a spot of fishing, beach walks and hunting out thrift stores!

Short breaks with the family are fantastic! Not only does it give you time to get perspective on things in your world, but it's the memories acquired that I treasure the most. I don't know if it's just me, but when I travel, I feel that somehow I am more open and in tune with the present which is possibly the reason why experiences feel richer and create much more lasting and vivid memories.
Of course my thoughts automatically go to what to pack?? Mid winter in a coastal village you might think you need quite a few winter warmers as there is nothing worse than getting somewhere and not being prepared for the elements! If you spend the time to pack the essentials you won’t end up bringing lots of random stuff. Less is always more, especially if you consider the luggage limitations of a car boot that’s quite small….
So here’s a little list of ideas I’ve put together with the five things I think are a great wardrobe basis for your next mid winter coastal vacay:

1. Jeans

No brainer yes, essential yes!! I say pack two or three pairs in case you get some surf splash walking those beaches, or if you want to change up your day to evening leg armour, and of course they are warm!!

2. Scarf (or two..)

There is no better way to change up an outfit than with accessorising, and scarves are such a perfect way to create a different look for your outfit. Hell if you don’t feel like getting changed into a new outfit, a basic scarf will automatically change up your ensemble.

3. Warm Jumper (s)

I always pack a couple these. You can go for the sweatshirt vibe and the luxury alpaca blend when feeling cosy in front of that fireplace overlooking the ocean if you’re lucky!! Why not pack a metallic knit number alongside a plainer basic, who says you can’t shimmer more than the sea!!

4. A Coat or two

This should be a day to night number you can wear beachside or bar side. I always find that a puffa style by day is the trick, and a warmer overcoat style when wanting to look slightly more glam at the local Bowlo! Make it a statement coat to boot, then one of your two black tee’s you pack will look a million bucks teamed with it!!
5. Hats!
Easy, beanie + fedora = winner, no explanation required!!
While writing this I have myself sorted for Friday and won’t be packing like its three weeks in NYC! I’ll take some snaps on insta and you can let me know what you think of my chosen holiday attire! my handle is @aceyaceyeboutique.
