NEW ADDITIONS TO LOVE

Now that we are approaching February at pace, for some the countdown to Valentine’s Day has begun! With this in mind I thought it was time to acknowledge the annual day dedicated to LOVE :)

To kick this off I wanted to check the temperature on the topic of V Day in 2026 and as expected it is a mixed bag to say the least.

I for one, am not really bothered on the idea of a day of love either way. I mean, I don’t need there to be a day on the calendar to wait till I show my special someone (Simon), that I appreciate him and our life together. BUT…it can be a good excuse to get something special for your significant other or go out for a nice meal!

Across TikTok there are many people suggesting as we approach the day of love to ‘De-Centre’ yourself from men, and Vogue suggested that having a boyfriend is embarrassing!! I think what this actually means, reading between the lines is that guys or in any case that potential significant other, stops being your organising principle. Your needs and desires aren’t second to someone else. Your sense of worth isn’t calibrated by how “chosen” you feel that day. Your inner voice stops narrating itself as a prelude to partnership or a referendum on its success. This isn’t revolutionary thinking, but it’s certainly enjoying a moment of mainstream conversation.

Whether Valentine’s Day is irrelevant to you, you surprise your best friend with flowers or you treat yourself with a day of self-love, it’s all up to our own interpretation :)
