Well yet again The Oscars are upon us, and I’ve been trying to fit in some movie time so when watching the glamour of it all next week I have an idea as to why so many fabulous people and movies have been nominated! With kids a little older now its easier to be more in tune; previous years I’ve been up on all the animation nominees and G movies only!
On the weekend I had a ‘date night’ to see the movie ‘Brooklyn’, based on the novel by Colm T’oibin’s, and directed by John Crowley, and it was just fabulous!
It stars Saoirse Ronan playing the character Ellis Lacey, and follows her immigration from a small town in Ireland to NYC’s Brooklyn in the 1950s. The film shows how to pursue happiness, achieve it, and keep it true to yourself and what you in the end want for your own life. Saoirse in nominated for Best Actress for he role, and my bets are on that she will win, an amazing performance!
It is beautifully shot, and the parade of fashion from the 50s so well portrayed by wardrobe designer Odile Dicks- Mireaux.
I know at the moment fashion has returned to the 90s with slip dresses, grunge and everyone talking about the Courtney Love classic fashion moments to be your inspiration, but the girlish yet strong silhouette of the 50s will never date.
We’ve put together a little styleguide of 50s flavour available at aceyacey.com.au, so if you to see the movie, it may inspire you to travel back in time and channel a little of Ellis Laceys wardrobe.
Good luck for the oscar Saoise, my bets are on you!!
