THE SPRING RACING EDIT!! FASCINATING FROCKS FOR TRACKSIDE!
It’s Spring racing season in Australia and whatever we may think of horse racing, it’s here to stay! The races have been around for hundreds of years. When researching for this blog I discovered that the sport has existed since 1665, and the first racetrack was laid out on Long Island USA, organised races though didn’t actually exist until after the Civil War in 1868.
It’s a chance to dress up, an excuse to drink many glasses of champagne and hopefully win a few $$$$ to pay for the outfit you’ve purchased for the day. Nostalgia rules with dressing for the races, and the tradition of the race day dress code still applies, despite this modern era where almost anything goes!! Need a few tips? Here a few that might help make savvy choices when picking that special outfit! If you don’t want to be as off key as Paris Jackson was as the style ambassador for Melbourne Cup last year this simple summary can help when making your fashion choices!
Always remember a level of decorum is required. Avoid anything too tight, revealing, strapless or midriff-baring. At Royal Ascot, one of the most prestigious races in the world, its extensive style guide specifies that dresses need to fall at the knee or lower and shoulder straps need to be one inch at a minimum even if a jacket or wrap is worn over the top. You can consider trousers or a jumpsuit as well, which are very ‘now’ but the same rules apply for the length – no shorts here!
The other thing to consider is the headpiece. Fascinators of course are the number one choice by most, but if not on point, your choice will ruin your outfit! The Aussie racing carnival scene is more relaxed with this rule than say Ascot in the UK, where it is considered more appropriate to wear a proper hat that suits your outfit.
With the Spring racing carnival in Australia well and truly kicked off we thought it high time at aceyacey.com.au to highlight all the perfect frocks that we’re excited about currently in stock plus amazing shoes just perfect for your race day attire, be it attending the The Cup, Oaks Day, Derby Day or even a simple office sweep!
