With Season Four of The Crown being binged across the globe the ‘Diana Factor’ is yet again captivating us all. As someone who grew up during this particular timeline of the series Emma Corrin’s fantastic portrayal of Diana’s arrival to the Royal family is a fascinating insight on her transformative effect on the palace.
The timing in a fashion sense of the series couldn’t be more well placed with the cool puff sleeves and high waisted pant styles that Diana so adored in every store at the moment thanks to GANNI, RIXO and many a high street label embracing 80s chic! When Di stepped out in a checkered maxi puff sleeve frock with girlfriends in Episode Two, she could have been sitting front row at Copenhagen Fashion week looking every bit an influencer today! Emmy Award winning costume designer for the series Amy Roberts has done an amazing job replicating fabulous looks from Diana’s time at the palace from her opulent wedding gown to the 80s shoulder pads, and has accurately captured the path of the shy teen to most photographed woman in the world.
When speaking with the media about the series Roberts says “It was the most fantastic thing to be able to show people not just the Diana we all remember—this amazingly glamorous, attractive, vibrant, refreshing creature—but there's this journey to that point, [which] we see this season,” explains Roberts. Eighty individual pieces chart Diana’s teen years to her late 20s: “I think it's fascinating to see how she develops with her clothes,”.
